Album Description Yesterday's Rising played 35 shows on 2004's Vans Warped Tour and were recognized as the youngest band to ever be a part of that tour. Their Fearless debut EP, "When We Speak We Breathe", came out in July 2004 and sold over 8,000 copies without proper distribution. They're invited back for this summer's Warped Tour to play all 50 shows headlining the same Smartpunk Stage that saw Under Oath blowing up last year. On "Lightworker", the songwriting is shockingly mature, delivered with scream/sing vocal hooks, metal inspired guitar riffs, and complex crushing rhythms. I heard Ships of Relations and When we speak, we breathe and saw great improvement. The sound is definitely unique. However, sometiems a get the tinniest hint of Incubus, but of course much heavier at times. For young guys these guys sound like veteran composers. The vocals are sound, along with the screams. Drummer, crisp as ever, guitars very solid. The sound that they create is melodic in a very different way. Dark at times, chaotic, but very tightly nit. very intense. My Body is Like A Metaphor just blows me away every time i hear it. Songs following Catastrophic seem to lose that edge they create initially in the album though. However the album regains momentum and strength at Becoming one with Nature. Just the way I feel. could be mistaken." The first thing is lead ins. Of their 10 previously released songs, most of them have instrumental lead ins that last an average of 55 seconds. The second thing is break downs. In their first 2 EPs there are plenty of "breaks" mid song, where they highlight, emphasize and exagerate the best parts of the tune. The lead ins and break downs I just mentioned offer huge variety in every song, making it very easy to listen to over and over again. Lightworker is missing both. Too many of these songs are redundant. They do sound good, but it's like listening to a 15 second clip looped over. It becomes a stale listen, fast. Make sure you own their first two five track releases. If they're touring near you, go to a show (wear ear plugs). Treasure what they've got out that you like, and hope for another album." |
