CD Reviews

One of the most talented underground artists out there
J. B. Ware | Burnin' In Hell | 04/27/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Yesh aka Yeshua da poED has one of the greatest deliveries in the game. And he's not a bad producer either. The biggest problem that he has is that his delivery often does not fit his own production. Back in 96 Siah and Yeshua released a vinyl only EP on Fat Beats that was incredible. The chemestry between these two rappers was excellent and everybody looked forward to more from them. They have yet to release a follow up and neither one of them was really heard from again until last fall when Yeshua dropped the somewhat disapointing Wee Bee Foolish album with his new sidekick. Although Siah showed up for one track, the album did not have immaculate chemistry of the Siah and Yesh EP. Now, with this album Yeshua finally gets an opportunity to shine all by himself. Unfortunately it is Yesh's production that holds this release back the most. With the one exception of the absolutely stellar "Hustlers," Yesh's beats on the album are very jazzy, sort of reminiscent of something Tribe might rock over. But Yesh's monotone delivery sounds much better over beats like the beat on "Hustlers" and the DJ Mondee produced "Apt. 219." With a delivery that outshines Rakim in his prime and an incredible ability to flip syllables and topics Yesh has the potential to make an excellent solo album, unfortunately this one is not quite there."
