CD Reviews

Well.. Buy the original albums instead.

"I don't see this album representing what Yellowjacets can do. I really don't. Buy the individual albums instead. That's where Yellowjackets really shows what they can do."
Smooth Jazz with an Edge!

"Like most GRP offerings, the sound quality of this digital master is very good. The tracks here are quite different in style with a mix of vocal tracks as well as live ones. Here lies the problem though as the volume levels are clearly lower for the live tracks while the studio tracks sound louder and more polished. Otherwise, the album sounds exactly like a best of album as it's a collection of hits and the album doesn't flow very well at all. Somehow, the collection does not sound better than the sum of its parts. Great sound but not a great album although some individual tracks like "Revelation" and "Dewey" stand out. Not one of GRP's best albums."
Good, solid jazz

"Collection is GRP's Yellowjackets hits compilation. There is plenty to like about the disc, especially the collaboration with Michael Franks on "The Dream." Mintzer does excellent sax work throughout the album, and the production is typical GRP (translation: first rate). Ferrante and Company have put out some quality work, and I'm sure the live show is impressive, but my biggest beef about Collection is that 5 of the 11 songs are from Live Wires. Maybe I was looking for more of a variety, but it's a solid 4-star effort."
