CD Reviews

The music that makes you dream
M. Milkevicius | Golden, CO | 02/12/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is for sure not Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain soundtrack... Way deeper and whole-souled.

If you like the old drawer chest of your grandma and bouquet of wild flowers on top of it, if you like to sit in old grandpas chair on lazy and calm summer evening - is for you.

Les Retrouvailles is a passionate album. Happily and sadly romantic with a wonderful touch of mystery and mystique. In total, there are sixteen tracks of pure mental delight decorated with piano, accordion, harpsichord, violin, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, melodica, toy piano, typewriter, vibraphone and various rhythm instruments.

Very solid
Boxorice | Greenville, SC | 04/04/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you are a fan of Yann Tiersen then you will like this record. I don't think it is as strong as Le Phare or Rue des Cascades but it is very solid. There are a couple songs with electric guitar, bass, and drums which are good. But personally, I like when he sticks with the traditional instruments. Elizabeth Frazer sings on 2 songs and I think that's pretty exciting."
Music of simplicity
Kurtulus Cumhur Korkmaz | Istanbul, Turkey | 03/26/2008

"i fell in love with les retrouvailles with the first time i've heard La Veilee.Real touching melody, complexity in feelings simplicity at the music side as a Tiersen classic. I got the limited edition with the DVD box.In the DVD we can see how Tiersen is creating his music, it is all about the whole recording cycle of the album. And for the audiophiles and real Tiersen fans, DVD gives the chance to see the partitions for guitar, violin, xylophone and toy piano like how he is combining the separete recordings. And for finally who loves details, he is listening to Cocteau Twins album where we can see for few seconds. Well i guess i have rambled a bit, to sum up this album is Tiersen's one of the greatest works and i can^'t finish without saying a word about Elizabeth Fraser's amazing and unique voice."
