CD Reviews

It's still Y&T, and it still rocks!
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 04/12/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I realize that Y&T appropriately titled 10th album - 1990's Ten - is not considered one of the band's best releases. Along with their 1986 album Contagious, Ten tends to be dismissed as part of Y&T's hair metal phase, and that's unfortunate given just how good the album really is.

Ten may have some hair metal trappings (beyond the band's look, there is an unmistakable hair metal production), but it's still pretty close to Y&T's classic melodic rock sound. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is one of my absolute favorite Y&T songs, and Hard Times, City, Come in From the Rain, She's Gone and Ten Lovers are vintage Y&T rockers. There are some filler tracks, but they're more than offset by the album's better songs.

It's not a perfect album by any means, but it's still a good Y&T album and one that shouldn't be dismissed lightly.

PS - I'd love to have a remastered version of this album (and Contagious too, while we're at it) to go along with the other great reissues the band has released lately.
