CD Reviews

Great album

"Thanks to Bob Freedman (Berklee College of Music, arranger and composer) who arranged so well this album. It's not just some strings playing guide tones, it's a whole work of melodic construction and harmonisation. He made simple tunes sound like never before. Just great.Wynton, very talented was a good player for the arrangements. At this age he already had a very strong attitude in his sound.I would recommend this album not only for trumpet players, jazz musicians, but to composers and arrangers. Listen to Bob, he did a great job."
Work Into It..........

"I've had this cd about 8 years and now consider it exceptional.
At first, I wasn't sure.......not about his playing (he's always had exceptional command of the instrument) but I suppose the orchestral arrangements threw me. After all these years of having this in my collection I now fully appreciate the backing!True, on this cd, Wynton does remind me (and I'm sure a lot of people) of Miles and like Miles, a lot of what he has done fails to appeal to me....but that's certainly not knocking his talent. As stated previously by an earlier reviewer, this is an introspective set best enjoyed in the late evening or possibly a rainy or snowy day or any time one is kicking back to relax. I've never heard it get much air time on a jazz show....it's enjoyable, but more of a mood type of music."
Late Time , Nite Time with the right person--The Man

"This is a cool, nightime piece by one of the best. It is often hard to take, you will work, but I love this music. Arrangement is tops, tunes are classic. You will not go wrong making love with Marsalis in the house. I have listened to this CD many times and that's saying something about me and the trumpet. Buy it and enjoy life."
