CD Reviews

Incredible record!
Jon Hensley | Western KY | 02/29/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wynn is clearly at his best on this record. I assume these are some of Wynn's final recordings.. or atleast recordings from when he got to be a bit older. His voice was at it's absolute best on this record. Wynn is a guy who Marty Stuart said, "Taught Buck Owens and Merle how to do it".The sound is extremely clear on this record and Wynn's voice is just amazing as noted earlier. If you like Gram Parsons and Gram's influence on the Byrds (Sweetheart of the Rodeo) then I also suggest picking this up. California Country Music at it's finest. Clearly the best Wynn Stewart record available."
A Good Sampling of Wynn Stewart

"It seems many of the musicians I admire most died before their time. Wynn Stewart is one. Much has been made in all quarters about his inspiring Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Obviously, it's true, and if you are a Wynn Stewart fanatic, you can get a collection with dozens of his songs for about $250. If you don't want to let go of that much scratch, consider this fine package. It has a very good representation of the man's work and includes his biggest hit that even country music haters must love, "It's Such A Pretty World Today". That one was used in a Ryan O'Neal movie, "The Driver" in 1978. This is an affordable item that deserves to be heard in every country music collector's CD player."

"These are the famous Playboy Sessions,After The Storm, for the Bakersfield icon Wynn Stewart, probably his best, along with the Capitol Recordings.Wynn stewart a big influence on the Bakersfield sound, and the troubadour Merle Haggard,Haggard starting his career playing bass in Stewart's band, recording Stewart's Sing A Sad Song included on this cd,also notable songs on here,Season's Of My Heart,a George Jones original, plus the Stewart standards,It's Such A Pretty World Today,Big,Big,Love and one song that really caught my ear,Lonely Rain. One song that doesn't fit on here is the novelty,Don't Monkey With My Widder, but most of all it's that unique voice of Wynn Stewart that rolls up and down smoothly and precisely note for note, and like Paycheck with the right management and direction Wynn Stewart could have stood above the rest. This Audium cd is of good quality and sounds excellent."
