On the other side of the ocean

"Hey, this isn't a bad album at all. Workshy's first official adaptation of R&B (they did a little of that on "Allure") on the last couple of tracks works surprisingly well. The songs are very cozy and delicate, detached but without being indifferent - detachment has always been a hallmark Workshy temperament, but it really blooms on "Clear", giving the songs a very timeless quality. You can imagine these songs to have come from any of the past three decades, but wouldn't be able to say exactly when. :o)For those who haven't heard their music, Workshy is probably best classified as a soul-jazz-pop crossover. Having said that, the magic of this album is that it's really become difficult to classify. The influences and genres don't blend together - they just disappear like they've never existed, leaving you with the magic. My favorites are "The reason" and "Love squall", the bonus track. One of my favorites for its year, "Clear" has aged very well so far, probably better than any other Workshy album. Mike and Chrysta today are probably very different from when the "Ocean" album came out 10 years ago, but I love them every step of the way. Also try their latest (2002) release, "Mood"."

"Workshy never fails to deliver. I was pleasantly surprised by the direction in which this release had taken."
