"Deflower is the 1997 debut album from Swedish melodic death metal band Without Grief. While the band is firmly rooted in the At the Gates style of melodic death, they definitely emphasized the death over the melodies. This is fierce, aggressive death metal that often reminds me of Hypocrisy.



Without Grief released one more album and went their separate ways, which I suppose isn't too surprising. As good as they were; they weren't at the same level as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, or the other major players in the Swedish death metal scene.



Still, Deflower is a worthy addition to your collection if you're a melodic death metal fan.
