Product DescriptionThe definitive CD of Jamestown Centenary Music: 1807-1907-2007. Featuring the award- winning Wind Ensemble at Lehigh University under the direction of Mr. David B. Diggs. All music has been arranged from original sources by Mr. Diggs or by the Commonwealth's own scion of historic Virginia brass music, Randolph W. Cabell. The 1807 selections feature a real treat: The re-created sound of Capt. Nestle's Norfolk Artillery Band which provided music to that celebration. Each selection by this band of "Harmoniemusick" is preceded by the narrator who delivers the actual toasts. 1907 music is drawn from the nearly three dozen compositions which were written for the 1907 Jamestown Exposition, including one by John Phillip Sousa. Three marches and a waltz have been arranged for full wind ensemble, the others for turn-of-the-century brass band. 2007 is represented by two landmark compositions. First is Mr. Cabell's "Trumpeter of Jamestowne" March, which draws upon tunes from the time of the Jamestown settlement, and from early bugle calls. Second is Mr. Diggs "Symphonic Suite for Band" of James Horner's music from the movie, "The New World." Band arrangements of all of the music are available from Historical Brass Music of Virginia
