Willie Loco BOOM BOOM Alexander - INDEED !!!
The Aeolian Kid | WAMESIT | 11/11/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Willie Loco BOOM BOOM Alexander - INDEED !!! ... Track #1. Great song! Great Guitar! Good Groove. ... Track #2. Okay song. Interesting Lyrics and Jerry Lee Lewis-like "killer" vocals. ... Track #3. Hey, a classic! Crappy recording - but a great groove and a cool delivery. ... Track #4. Another classic and another crappy recording - but what a great lyric and vocal delivery! ... Track #5. Great recording! Great groove! Great performance - instrumentally and vocally. Cool story, and interesting lyrics. ... Track #6. Okay song. Okay recording. Cool idea. ... Track #7. Another classic! Okay recording. "Fey" falsetto vocals hold up well over the years and don't sound `dated.' Good groove! ... Track #8. Cool song! Images. Raw, `lo-fi' recording works. Fun vocals. ... Track #9. Interesting song! Pre-Morphine? ... Nice sax. Cool processing on vocals! ... Track #10. A kooky, kinky klunker of a twist on a children's nursery rhyme with cool guitar and passionate vocals. ... Track #11. Cheesy synth sound and click-track drum machine beat - but a great, romantic, vocal delivery. Atmosphere! ... Track #12. Who's playing the cool synth? As for the rest, I can take it or leave it. ... Track #13. Good groove. Bad mix. Overly bassy. Good guitar. Kinda cool in a minimalist rockabilly kind of way. ... Track #14. WOW! ... This is a true masterpiece by Willie and Eric Lindgren, for sure! Killer snare drum sound! Great recording and engineering by Chris Lannon and Kim Pandapas at SMAP in Somerville, MA. I really like this one. A great recording, mix, and production - and a killer groove with good instrumentation. Good beat. Great vocals. Fantastic saxophone! Very cool guitar. This is the band that rocks the hardest: Willie on vocals, Rupert Webster on guitar, Neil Thompson on bass, Bobby Bear on drums, and Steve Adams on sax, with some help from Eric Lindgren on piano and Emax, and Joe Rodgers on cello. Very cool. ... Track #15. A good song with a good beat. Nice background vocals. ... Track #16. An okay song. Interesting vocals and bass guitar. Great sax by John Danton-Downer. Cool guitar licks by Matthew Mackenzie with some inventive `whale song' slide runs. ... Track #17. An okay song, I guess. Does not do much for me. Sounds like a Stones throw-away. ... Track #18. Cool concept. Cool vocals. Minimalist "Wall of Voodoo" instrumentation works in a weird way. Cool ending! ... Track #19. Vinyl LP surface noise really detracts from the enjoyment of the song, which is not a bad song at all. Billy Loosigian, on guitar, really put his heart into this one. ...Track #20. I like the cello on this one. Good work, Kevin Crudder! Sounds like a song Zappa might have put on the `Cruisin' with Reuben and the Jets' album. Steve Adam's tenor sax shines, too. ... Willie is in love. ... Track #21. This one has the 80's keyboard sound throughout, but the cello adds an interesting twist to the quirky lyrics. ... Track #22. I knew `Shopping Cart Louie,' having grown up in Lowell, MA. I used to see him walking the streets all the time. I still wonder who would have wanted to kill him, and why! God bless Willie for immortalizing his memory. (You've got soul, Willie!) Now, he's gone - like `Ding Ding,' `Depot Annie,' and `The Post Office Crazy Lady.' ... Great groove. Great recording! Great vocal delivery. Really cool guitar string wizardry with beautific bends, and some great drumming to boot. ... "He couldn't survive the kids." ... Only in Lowell ! ... YOWZA! - George Koumantzelis / The Aeolian Kid"
