"While the songwriting is definitely stronger on his second release (UNVARNISHED), Smith's first album offers a great insight into the many influences behind his music. Smith achieves an interesting mix of songs on LFTLB not only through his full-band arrangements, but by touring a range of styles that include jazzy pop ("Traveling Toothbrushin' Man"), acoustic rock ("Rye Fields"), and ballads ("If I Were"). All around, this is a cool record, particularly for a DIY project!"
