CD Reviews

Melodic Rock Beautifulness
Brandon Hagen | Arlington, Wa | 08/28/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Fans of Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, Goo Goo Dolls, and Matchbox 20 will without a doubt love this band. Accoustic pop rock that touches on topics of the need for and love God gives us as well as everyday life and issues. The music is immediately moving and beautiful melodic, a very addictive mix.

Lead singer Scott Leger has what I consider a close to perfect voice, his vocal range able to leave lyrics stuck in your head for days on end. Every member of this band is very talented indeed, these guys could easily hold their own on a major label.

If your looking for beautiful music with meaningful lyrics look no further. I have had this CD for 3 years now and I still listen to it regularly despite having 500 other CDs to compete with it. I also highly recommend getting their EP "All My Days" if you can get your hands on it (I would try their website Wideawakeisaband.com)

To top it off these guys are super sincere and their hearts are in the right place. They used to come into the movie theater where I work, they couldn't be any nicer. They most definately have a fan for life... Wideawake will always be one of my favorite bands of all time."
Alternative Rock at its Highest!
Oudman | Austin, TX | 05/03/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I went to an Art festival two days ago here in Austin and I just happened to catch WideAwake performing outdoors - and they ended up catching me! I listen to a wide range of music - Classical, Jazz, Ethnic, and Rock - so a lot of Alternative groups end up sounding the same to me. These guys are much better than most of what I hear these days. They have a unique sound for this kind of music - but more important is the feel. They are definately in the Alternative Pop-Rock genre (with a very slight punk edge at times) but there's an extra depth to their music and the singer, Scott Leger, has a wonderful voice, very rich and full of expression, with a great range and an ability to sound a little different on each track. On "Stay" he sounds a little like Laim Gallagher of Oasis (sans attitude) or occasionally you may be reminded of Counting Crows, Toad the Wet Sprocket, or even a little Mick Jagger at his best, but the predominant quality is always uniquely his own voice.

I only heard the last two songs at their performance: "Not So Far Away" (title cut from their new CD) and "She Likes Purple." They had the audience singing along with "Not So Far Away" and I wasn't planning on hanging around but I couldn't leave - my feet wouldn't move - except to the music. Then they broke into "She Likes Purple" and I became an instant fan. I bought the new CD "Not So Far Away" and thanked the singer and asked about the last song, which he told me was on their first CD "Bigger Than Ourselves." I walked down the street a little ways and "She Likes Purple" just kept playing in my head so I went back and bought that too, just in case I never saw them again. I put the first CD into the CD player in my car and drove around listening to it -twice! I liked every single song, although I have to admit I thought the live version of "She Likes Purple" took the song to an even higher level, if that's possible. (Make sure you check out their touring schedule so you don't miss them live!) Every song is very musical, with catchy melodies and poetic lyrics. There is a good variety of styles and the songs only grow stronger with each successive listening.

If you like Alternative Rock at all I would highly recommend checking out their songs on Amazon or on their website: www.wideawake.com, or just buy both of their CD's so I can say "I told you so!""
