Two essential remasters in one great set

"Despite a lengthy career, both with Deep Purple and his own band Whitesnake, David Coverdale's big break came in the late 80's when he reinvented Whitesnake's sound for the hair metal era. The resulting albums - 1987's self-titled Whitesnake and 1989's Slip of the Tongue - are the band's best known works (thanks in no small part to some very memorable videos), and are collected in this great 2-disc set from French reissue label Axe Killer.

Disc 1 is the complete self-titled 1987 Whitesnake album, digitally remastered, with three bonus tracks - Looking for Love, Standing in the Shadows (remix), and Need Your Love So Bad (remix). The digital remastering is incredible. The album sounds as crisp and clear as anything released today (the songs are still better than most of what is released today as well).

Disc 2 is the 1989 follow up album Slip of the Tongue. This album features the same stunning digital remastering and includes four bonus tracks - Sweet Lady Luck, Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, You're Gonna Break My Heart Again, and Guilty of Love.

The discs come housed in a nice black fold-out digipack, which contains separate booklets for each album. There is another remastered version of the 1987 Whitesnake album that comes with a live DVD. I still think this 2-disc set is the better value since it contains the only remastered version of Slip of the Tongue. Besides, if Whitesnake fans want a great DVD release there's always the Live: In the Still of the Night CD/DVD set.
