Love Dances is a baker's dozen of some of the most seductive and stylish love songs you'll ever hear. From Lins, Porter, Gershwin, Van Heusen and the team of Rogers and Hart come many of the best jazz standards ever penned. Matthew's intimate delivery of these favorites is backed by a superb rhythm section headed by pianist Stefan Scaggiari (Corcord Jazz) whose arrangements are wisely sparse allowing Sue to showcase her extraordinary style. Scaggiari's sensitivity follows and anticipates Sue's every interpretive nuance. String bassist, Keter Betts (Ella Fitzgerald) sets the mood, enhancing Matthews' subtlety throughout the album. Guitarist, Steve Abshire and drummer Mike Smith round out this first rate quartet, creating the gentle acoustic sound that characterizes LOVE DANCES.

"Sue Matthews leads us on a pleasurable journey through a dozen and one standards, backed by a quartet of truly great players. Some of the material is well known("They Can't Take That Away From Me" and "Our Love Is Here To Stay")and some a bit more obscure(a romping "Moonlight Savings Time" and a brilliant bossa treatment of "Make Me Rainbows".) Each arrangement is well crafted and unique. Sue's performance covers the full range of emotion... exultant and carefree, seductive and sweet, poignant and reflective. Sue Matthews is a wonderfully talented and dynamic singer, embracing each lyric and caressing each melody with an innate sense of phrasing, sensitivity, and good taste. Sue is also a truly versatile performer. (Most recently Sue recorded an incredible CD with Arranger Rob Vuono, Jr. and his orchestra on the JAZ DISQUES label that is receiving much high praise and critical acclaim.)
