"What to say about Tatiana Nikolayeva's playing of Bach ?
First, that Shostakovich was so taken with her playing that he composed one of his major work, the 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op.87.Her playing goes deep into the music. What makes her unique when compared to other Bach performers is her very profound imagination and the sincerity emaning of her playing.

No mannerism or idiosyncrasies. It is musical art at its highest degree. I have heard other recordings and altough there might be a few individual preludes that sounded better from other pianists, as a whole set this surpasses them all."
