"I've purchased some invaluable Spanish-produced albums of out-of-print or never-released American sessions. This Spanish import, on the other hand, is nothing more than a collection of two sessions from the long-defunct, Chicago-based Vee Jay label--"Introducing Wayne Shorter" and "Kelly Great"--both happening to include Wayne Shorter. To attribute both dates, however, to the "Wayne Shorter Quintet" is not only misleading but a bit of a disservice to Wynton Kelly, the leader on the second date. Moreover, both of the original sessions are still in print under their original titles.
3 stars for Introducing Wayne Shorter; 4 for Kelly Great.
[I barely post a "factual" review and get nailed. By a Wynton Kelly detractor or some Spanish free agent who specializes in re-packaging CDs for profit? Now I wonder if the rights for this set were legally obtained by Mr. Lonehill.]"
