Synopsis

Product Description
Wayne Henderson, the subject of Allen St. John's book Clapton's Guitar, is a renowned acoustic guitar builder and player from southwestern Virginia. He plays bluegrass and old-time tunes in a remarkably fast and clean style, using a thumb-pick and two fingerpicks. This is Wayne's first solo guitar CD, played on an OM-style guitar that he built himself. It was recorded on audiophile equipment in a friend's living room, with no editing or overdubs. Wayne chose all the tunes, most of which he has played since he was a boy. Played in this relaxed atmosphere, and with Wayne freed from the restrictions of a backing band, in the words of the CD's co-producer, "these versions are full of adventure, new ideas, and risk taking."

CD Reviews

Wayne Henderson's a Star
D. Smith | Jefferson, NC United States | 08/02/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Have had the pleasure to hear Wayne in person on more than one occasion, and always enjoy his playing. This CD is simply an amazing one-man show, unrehearsed and with outstanding fidelity. If you enjoy a true pick artist, this is one of the finest albums you will ever hear. The fact that he also built the guitar that he played (hence the title) makes it even more special."
Great guitar playing
C. Meiser | 03/16/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is straight ahead great guitar playing, by a man who also makes great guitars. If you like acoustic guitar music, regardless of the genre of music you like, then you'll probably love this CD."
