CD Reviews

War of Ages Will Pump You Up and Move Your Soul
Media Lover | 08/28/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"War of Ages is excellent. Their furious guitar work, meticulous drums, passionate vocals and courageous war cries make them one of the best metalcore bands I've ever heard. On top of all that, they have a VERY STRONG message for Jesus Christ and his inspired word. It brings joy to my heart when I hear a song break into blistering metal fury with the refrain, "We will rise!" or "Pour your sight upon me." Each song is 100% motivational. From the beautiful message of "From the Ashes" to the EXCEEDINGLY manly "Heart of a Warrior," this album remains a pure and beautiful example of Christian hardcore done right."
One Of The Top Metalcore Bands

"I decided to check out this band when I had planned on going to see Soilwork and Throwdown. I'm not a fan of Throwdown and Soilwork is pretty good. With that being said, I like to hear music from all the bands that play at shows that I attend. I wasn't expecting War of Ages to be anything special, but boy was I terribly wrong! After hearing about 4 or 5 of their songs on the internet, I decided that I needed to have the CD immediately so I picked it up. Unfortunately, I never made it to the Throwdown/Soilwork/War of Ages show because of snow!

The album consists of 10 songs and it's nothing that can be considered ground-breaking in the sea of metalcore bands, however the music and lyrics are what set them apart from everyone else. They excel in their ability to write captivating melodic leads in addition to harmonies that are like sex to the ear. Now, I usually don't care for breakdowns because they can be so monotonous, but they actually fit in perfectly on this album because they add melodic guitar work into each one. Each song has its distinct sound so it never feels like you are listening to the same song 10 times. The vocals consist of spoken, mid-range, semi-clean, and harsh vocals. And you shouldn't need to refer to the lyric book because they can be easily heard.

In conclusion, yes this band is signed on Facedown Records and is a Christian band, but Christian or not, this album will and should appeal to any individual. This band is one of the best metalcore bands out right now and it's only a matter of time before this band blows up. If they don't well then a lot of people are going to be missing out.

Most enjoyable metalcore CD I've ever heard

"This CD gets NOWHERE enough recognition. This is a thoroughly enjoyable metalcore CD that will captivate you from beginning to end with thrashing riffs, pounding drums, intricate melodies, and refreshingly meaningful lyrics. Yes this is a Christian band and yes they sing about Christian themes - but DO NOT let this deter you from checking this CD out. As for me, it only adds to the CD and gives the amazing music meaning, and meaning evokes true, raw emotion.

Not one song is skippable on this CD. Every song is brutal, positive, and fresh. I would normally make a list of notable songs for a review, but honestly that would encompass the whole list of songs - although there is an amazingly sick guitar duo at the last minute and half of Aftermath that cannot go unrecognized.

DON'T HESITATE to get this CD - if you like hard rock or any type of metal, just GET IT and share it with friends!"
