There is a lightness and purity in her sound that has never been achieved since. Even a huge Steinway, in her hands, has the light and sweet sound of an 18th century Fortepiano.Many of her recordings from the 1930's were lost when the Germans destroyed the masters during the occupation of Paris from 1940 to 1944. The recordings on this CD are some of the few that survived.The Sonata #12 (K-332) is the most wonderful piano recording I have ever heard: Landowska can hear -- and she can make us hear -- sounds that we never imagined possible.
