CD Reviews

Smooth as the ocean breeze
J. B Brent | Oak Ridge, Tennessee USA | 01/03/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The blue ocean shown on the album cover art is descriptive of the sounds which flow from this relaxing but musically intricate collection from the brilliant Brasilian jazz organist Mr. Wanderley. His staccatto rhythmic- but never jarring - playing is well complimented by the precicely enunciated female vocal chorus present throughout. "Surfboard" is a little known but lovely composition from Antonio Carlos Jobim. The title song was penned by '60s hit writer Jimmy Webb. There's also an enjoyable rendition of Burt Bacharach's "Reach Out." WHEN IT WAS DONE was originally released in 1968 as A&M SP 3018. A second album, MOONDREAMS (SP 3022) from 1969, also is worth seeking out."
