While his guitar and songwriting are not exactly revolutionary, I admire his ability to continue a career putting out honest, meat and potatoes blues rock in a world dominated by musical CRAP. I agree with Dr. Bluesman to an extent, that he does use a certain amount of cliches in his songs (the one I notice most is the phrase "Just a man...."), but people do expect him to stay in the box musically speaking and not get too out there--like Jonny Lang. Which means a more objective (and more forgiving) way to describe his cliches here and there is "sticking to a formula that works"--like AC/DC, for example. And on top of that, Walter is just a down-to-earth, helluva nice guy who loves his music and his fans. He does manage to branch out a little on this effort with some more folk-tinged numbers while still doling out a hefty serving of his tried and true blues rock. Walter is a throwback to the day when guitar and singing talent mattered more than how many outfits some one-named bimbo changes into during her video on MTV!!" BIG DOG Michael P.
