Walter Hyatt's Music is Stunning

"In a sweet nod to her intent to continue releasing Walter's surviving tracks after the ValuJet plane crash which claimed his life, wife/producer Heidi Hyatt has subtitled this album, "Some Unfinished Business," appropriately, "Volume One." Fans of this wonderful CD will be glad to know there is more to come, in addition to previous Walter Hyatt albums, "King Tears" (produced by longtime Hyatt fan and friend, Lyle Lovett) and "Music Town." This third solo release of Walter's will be a treasured addition or introduction to his work. Walter has an amazing ability to blend jazz, folk, country, Americana and old-time music into a seamless treasure which his smooth, seemingly effortless vocal style carries into the listener's ear, and heart. With wry humor, deep insight, and overall, compassion for the human condition (trust me), Walter makes you feel better even when he's singing something sad. One of his many masterpieces, "Deeper Than Love," contains the prophetic, "It's just a simple beat of heart, just a glove on the hand of time; it's so long we've been apart, when I remember your life, I remember mine."
Walter was also the founding member of Uncle Walt's Band, with the great Champ Hood (1952-2001) and country star David Ball ("Thinkin' Problem," "Riding with Private Malone."). Way ahead of their time, Uncle Walt's Band music is being discovered by a new generation of musicians and if you haven't yet heard them, treat yourself to their re-released CDs as well (also available on amazon). In its day, UWB was embraced by colleagues and friends including Lucinda Williams, Marcia Ball, Townes Van Zandt and many others."
Sweet country soul

"For a set of unfinished tracks, this sure is sweet. The late Walter Hyatt, a founding member of the Austin roots-outlaw scene, died in a 1996 plane crash, but fans will take comfort that a dozen years later his family has finally put out this sweet set of slinky-twangy acoustic R&B tunes, a glorious mix of Memphis-style soul and mature, moving Americana. It's a great sound, ably framing Hyatt's richly layered vocals. I'm struck by the similarity of his voice to that of Ron Sexsmith -- and I'll bet that many of Sexsmith's fans will like this album as well. Definitely recommended! "I was a bit apprehensive, given what projects like this could be.
Don't be. More Walt, with finishing touches added by players who sound very glad to be a part of it.
Wish he was still with us making more music. We should be glad there's more business to tend to.
Thank you."
