CD Reviews

Must be Re-released!
Brett Farrell | Cape May, NJ USA | 04/21/2004

"EMI dosen't know what it is depriving the world of by not re-releasing this CD. They are keeping captive three of Offenbachs musical gems and though I personaly know of no other way of obtaining any of these operas besides this CD I do know it is the only way to get a recording of "Monsieur Choufleuri". As more and more Offenbach recordings fall sadly out of production it is a true sin that this CD is no longer accesible. The music is beautiful and the singers manage to sound operatic and at the same time never lose the mandatory flavor of humor that is essential to almost any Offenbach gem. This Cd is a must for any fan of Operetta or Opera-bouffe and especially those blessed with the good taste to be Offenbachanites."
"Enfin, me voilà 'chez lui'!"
Diego Montanes | Buenos Aires, Argentina | 10/26/2006

"There's no question about: M. Choufleuri is an exquisite, yet hilarious piece of work. Anyone who could be interested in the sparkling, corrosive sense of humour that insufflates Offenbach's work should hurry to get this CD set. The singers are simply outstanding, both vocally and histrionically speaking. Rosenthal catches the absurd of the situations and translate it into musical performance. You won't manage to hold on the laughters. As for the two other works (not so spectacular, but worth of the author) will grant you a very pleasant moment. Sonnez la musique!"
TOO EXPENSIVE

"Wonderful recording. But it has as of 2009 been reissued by EMI at 21.98. This cheaper version, however, does not contain a libretto."
