Nonpareil

(5 out of 5 stars)

"About a year ago, I began a music appreciation journey listening to various recordings of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D, Op. 61., by all the major artists including, (Kreisler, Heifetz, Menuhin, Szigeti, Huberman, Francescatti, Schneiderhan, Lairedo, Ostrakh and Zyeryng.) And though, each performance offers it's own special qualities, I found the Milstein, 1955, performance with William Steinberg and the Pittsburgh Symphony, unequalled in terms of soloist/orchestral balance, music clarity and aesthetic beauty. No matter how much I listened to the others, I had to come back to this one."
Milstein Brahms Concerto is excellent

"Milstein's performance of the Brahms concerto is excellent. It isn't too fast (ahem, Jascha Heifetz), nor too slow (ahem, Henryk Szeryng). Milstein's technique and interpretation are bulletproof. The orchestra matches him well. Listen to the excerpt of the first movement--you'll see what I mean."
