RACE BEYOND THE DOOR ABOVE THE APRIL SKY AS TIME SLIPS BY

(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are certain cds that are timeless. You never get tired of hearing them. TIME ODYSSEY is definitely one of those for me. Hmm...is it a coincidence it is called TIME ODYSSEY? I love the passion and emotion, the complexity--[listen to those lightning fast runs--WOW! If you are a musician, you can not help but admire and appreciate this music!] And together with the skill and presentation of this album, every song is entirely impressive, I could listen to it on repeat all day. (Actually today this is the third time, so far. Not something I normally do. Something I *rarely* do proving to me this is something I need to hold on to.) TIME ODYSSEY *is* guitar wizardy! TIME ODYSSEY inspires me to become all I can be--and to always remember to Soar! It truly lives up to the definition of its title--an intellectual and spiritual wandering through Time. I love music that takes me away. Transport me, yes! Also, I love these titles--check out the track listings. Awesome. The name of the song is as important as the music, in my opinion. Also the cover art is great, as on MIND'S EYE. What I appreciate most is the track "April Sky," taken from "Air on a G String" by Bach. It is one of those superlative tracks that touches me so deeply, I weep at its beauty and wonder. This track alone is worth buying the cd for! An interesting note for Dream Theater fans, Jordan Rudess wrote the keyboard music for "Prelude" section in "Into the Future" and the intro to "Message in a Dream." In the thanks inside the cd pamplet there are so many names listed including George Harrison who wrote "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," Johann Sebastian Bach "for the inspiration," and Vinnie thanked "God for the gift of music." Is this man amazing or what?THIS IS MUSIC! THE FULL SPECTRUM. My highest recommendation--buy it! 10/10 stars. "Time Odyssey...the journey through life itself."SOAR!"
Tone, soul and dexterity - wrapped into one excellent album!

"In my opinion, this CD is a must-have for fans of great guitar playing. Musically, every track is engaging. Vinnie demonstrates total command and control of the instrument, demonstrating stellar chops, incredible violin-like tone, and phrasing that most musicians can only hope to achieve. Highlights: April Sky (Bach would be proud), Race With Destiny (a tip of the hat to Al DiMeola). Don't pay attention to the Yngwie comparisons, other than the mastery of the baroque form, Vinnie Moore sounds like Vinnie Moore."
The best recording by one of the best rock guitarists

"I have been a fan of Vinnie Moore since the mid-eighties. This is his best work to date in my opinion. This was his last neo-classical oriented work which I have always thought was unfortunate since his best work was in that vein. That is not to say his latter more blues oriented work is'not good however. I have long suspected that he is trying to get away from Yngwie's shadow since they are often compared. Not ot worry, Vinnie is great in his own right and is easily distinguishable from Yngwie. Fans of old Al DiMeola recordings should love this stuff. His tone is sweet and not too processed and his attack is so precise! Imagine DiMeola on steroids. This is Vinnie's best and having Jordan Rudess on keyboards didn't hurt. The interplay between the two is amazing!"
