Great Black Metal

"Ignoring the so-called "review" above/below depending on whereever this little thing posts at. I would say that this is a great album and definatly something worth listening to if not purchasing and making part of your cd collection. Before I begin my review I will say this to the Phil Anselmo fans; THIS IS NOT *underlines* PANTERA, DOWN OR SUPERJOINT RITUAL!!! This is some pretty hardcore, raw(raw meaning NO production) black metal inspired by the likes of Darkthrone and Mayhem.

LineUp:

KillJoy: Vocals

Phil Anselmo: Guitar, Bass, and Drums

Opal Enthroned: Keyboards

Viking Crown is Anselmo's venture into the extreme harsh forms of early minimalist black metal. The music is deliberately poorly produced (hear that kids it's poor production on purpose!!!! That's black metal mate!) and are at times quite disturbing and evil sounding if your new to black metal. Inredibly bleak soundscapes of nothing more than pure, harsh noise which is in turn one of the more well known characteristics of early/true black metal bands such as Darkthrone and (early) Mayhem. Of course this is my favorite characterstic of black metal. I'll agree with the guy who wrote the other review...it probablly was recorded off of a walkman tape deck but who really cares?!"

"Why all the bad reviews? This album sounds pretty cool. I wasn't expecting to hear pantera. It's pretty abient and spacey. I like it better than superjoint.

Not saying I would buy it(might burn it)...but...not bad- or worse than other bands trying to do similar things.

;)"
I like it

"and do know why? because phil anselmo did what every musician would love to do, but is soo afraid of doing because of what everyone else would think. phil anslemo made an album that he wanted to make. he didn't care about what anyone would think, and he probably didn't care if the album sold at all. he just did what he wanted to. and he made a pretty cool album in the process.

if it was a joke, i didn't get it. i didn't think that it was a funny album."
