CD Reviews

Intense, yet mellow.
"Num Chuck" Steve | 10/08/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I think the drums make this album. They come in at the exactlyyyyyy the right point. the slow bass....bass..SNARE, with steady crashes in "love in ageless" reminds me of breakdowns of songs in hardcore bands, yet its played behind violins and a very dramatic vocal. the drums get even better in the next song. the stop and go rhythm is just infectious. the weird piano riff adds to the catchyness value, and it is definetly one of the best songs on the album. the rest of the album follows suit, i just love the drums (don't even get me started on "little town").

i shouldn't just praise the drums, considering the fact that everything else is nearly as amazing. mona's voice is pretty low which isn't weird unless you think about it. it certainly makes for a more eerie sound, especially the way she holds out her notes. with choices between piano, violins, and guitars, the songs on memories fade, use each one wonderfully. the seering guitar riff in "birthday song", the intense (and where i'm sure the other reviewers get the "hauntingly beautiful" line from) violin in "love is ageless", and the perfect piano part in "break of day" just add up for an excellent album. not one bad song, except the verse of "animals of the weather", but thats small enough to be looked aside. all in all, amazing.
