Synopsis

Album Description
Welcome to Tucson, Arizona. The landscape is desolate and the weather is unruly. Home of Versus The Mirror. It was late 2002, bored with the band they used to be in, drummer Shane Ray and guitarist Gabe Borquez began writing music for a new project. They soon welcomed guitarist Kevin Ryan and bassist Brad Murray to complete the instruments. The only problem was that Tucson wasn?t exactly a hotbed for dynamic singers. After four months of searching and struggling, the band found Davey Siebold. He was in another band at the time but was looking to put down the guitar and do something a little different. Siebold?s energy and passion for music was the perfect compliment for Versus The Mirror?s frantic style of melodic hardcore. The band wasted no time and began playing locally to a loyal and growing following. Eventually they completed numerous West Coast/Southwest tours sharing the stage with Unearth, Senses Fail, The Bled, Atreyu, Name Taken and more. Fast forward to late 2005. Three years of playing under their belt and a new album recorded with Bob Hoag who also recorded their first EP that got them signed to Equal Vision Records, the band is ready to take it to the road. Their energetic and intense live shows have floored audiences and earned the band a devoted and dedicated fan base. Home for Versus The Mirror is Tucson, AZ but with tours set for the rest of 2006, they won?t be seeing it anytime soon.

Amazing debut

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well i first heard of this guys when i was messing around on purevolume and their name caught my eye, after reading there music description which i beleive was "indie/hardcore/rock" i thought o balls another emo/scremo band,.. however after listening to "smoke it to the rope" and "birthed by architecture" i clearly found out i was wrong. Versus the MIrror is a great, original, heavy yet melodic post-harcore band. ANd "Home" their debut CD is now one of my favorites.Home is filled with great breakdowns, heavy and always changing guitars, amazing and catchy screaming, and even some synthesized/electronic interludes. Overall Great CD.

"Birthed by architecture" Great opener, pretty guitar parts, catchy drums, gets heavier towards the end. 5/5.

"Smoke it to the Rope" One of their heaviest songs, great breakdown towards the middle/end, one of my favorites.5/5

"Barracuda Capitol of the World" Good 2-step song, pretty and catchy guitars, great chorus.4/5

"The Great White Zombie" Definitely one of their most chilled out songs, good pretty breaks inbetween screming. 3/5

"Life as A Criminal" Another one of their heavier songs, still catchy, great drums, awesome guitars in the chorus. 5/5

"The Sound Asleep" An interlude filled with drums and bass and synthesizer/electonic noises. Good break in the CD.

"Out of Context" A fast-paced catchy song, great breakdown towards the end, another good 2-step song. 4/5

"Lets Get Alone" Very good guitars, probably some of my favorite on the Cd. Constantly changing guitars and drums. 4/5

"Boy gets what he wants" One of my favorites, great breakdown at the end, sums up the CD. 5/5

"Fear will keep them in line" Great intro, great 2-step parts and great guitars. Great song. 4/5

"Home" Another interlude, mostly drums, more weird and creepy than their other interlude.

"(I AM} The Master of Gravity" One of my favorites,fast-paced, very heavy and "hardcore". Awesome heavy breakdown. 5/5"

"I've been a fan and friends of Versus the Mirror from the beginning. This album is in a way amazing and in a way not so good. I've seen VTM more times than I can count on 2 hands and loved every second of it, but when the big moment came and their cd was released I wasn't as happy with it as I thought I'd be.

The songs are all fun and energetic, but it's the sound of it all that turns me off. They used old recording equipment to record this album, which is what gives it the sound, and that to me is what destroyed it. Their cdep/ demo was brilliant and are one of my favorites of this genre, but the full length to me does not live up to it. It's just boring and didn't give me the same vibe as their demo did.

"Smoke it to the Rope" and "Boy Gets What He Wants" are the best known songs from their demo. They also are on here. I'm not going to lie, they sound awful on this one. They completely destroyed the sound, the energy, and the vibe that these songs once had.

If you've never heard of Versus the Mirror, then you'll probably love this. But to everyone else who has been there since the start, check it out before you buy it.

If you ever get the chance, I would definitely recommend getting their demo/ cdep. It will blow you away. Also, I think this album isn't that great, but their live performances are still extraordinary. Definitely go see these guys if they come through your city.

The songs on this I think truly show the VTM I know are "Out of Context" and "Barracuda Capital of the World". The rest aren't what it used to be...I give it 2.5 stars...peace.
