The RCA transfer is out of print. I found the Grammofono 2000 transfer for about $11 and the performance is excellent, with decent mono sound. Whatever transfer one buys, this performance is essential, both for Toscanini's conducting and Ramon Vinay's brilliant portrayal of the title role.
Of course one must also have one of the Domingo recordings with good stereo sound, but to hear this opera conducted and performed by legendary artists, this classic performance cannot be surpassed." |
