"The merits of this performance are well documented. Callas was only 28 years old, in possession of a voice that was matched by none, and was able to produce a thrill every minute. Since this live performance is the only audio preservation of Callas' complete Lady Macbeth, it's a cherished document. What IS important here is that sound has been cleaned up to a pretty substantial degree by Myto. The EMI "Callas Edition" sounds rather poor in comparison to this edition. Callas' colleagues here can't begin to approach her level, but they are acceptable. But one values this recording for Callas and Callas alone. For that alone, this recording is a must-have."

"It is a good restoration of the only complete recording of "Macbeth" with Callas.

The merrits of Callas interpretation of the role are well known and agreed upon.

The only drawback of this CD set is an adsence of libretto, unlike more expensive EMI issue."
