My favourite in this Opera is the bass Alvaro, sung on this record by Carlo Cava, rich, resonant, full of feeling, and confidence. Cornell McNeil, as ever, distinctive, with that bass/baritone texture. Virginia Zeani, powerful, in the Leontyne Price mould. The principle tenor Gianfranco Cecchele is in the Bergonzi/Alfredo Kraus class, singing with agression, and emotion, when required.
