CD Reviews

No real new discoveries, but it is loaded with big dance tra

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Disc 1 is a mainstream smorgasbord, perfect for a "pop" party. Not crazy about the use of the Jacques LuCont mix of the Killers, because it sucks the energy out the original. Jason Nevins remixes Kelly Clarkson pretty much exactly the way he remixed Since U Been Gone, breakdowns and all...but it is a treat to get 5 minutes of this mix here. Destiny's Child gives us a peak hour slammer thanks to a Peter Rauhofer mix-too bad it's only 5 minutes of it. Faith Evans gets Freemasons usual vibrant, disco-flavored treatment. Duran Duran is dragged down by that irritating "you've got to believe" deep-voiced sample we've been hearing in dance songs for 2 decades, along with a boring mix and very few vocals. But the party comes back strong with the electro-house pounder that loops lines from "Say Say Say" by Jackson and McCartney-and it's basically the full length club mix. Love Generation is a mellow house song with rasta-like vocals and an ANNOYING whistle riff-another one to drag the party down. The Kupper mix of Sun is another lite track-wish one of the other remixes of this song would appear on a mix CD for a change. The Rauhofer mix of Toxic-OLD news-should have used the remix of "Do Somethin" instead. Benassi bros-well, their hard electro always sounds the same, like their hit "satisfaction", but the female vocals and the trancy synth are outstanding. "House is Not a Home"-typical peak hour perfection from Deborah Cox, and a good 7 minutes of the massive tony moran mix. And what can I say about Cascada? An annoyingly catchy commercial trance vocal track.

Disc 2 is much more club oriented, with a dark house vibe. It begins strong with thumpin beats, strong attitude-and gospel influenced male vocals! Tocadisco goes electro, with bleeps, blips and a hint of female vocals. The trend continues with the dark male vocal track "Your Body". We get the moody trance mix of Red Carpet that became the most sought after version-but it's so gloomy. Number 1 is what you'd expect from Goldfrapp, an electro house thumper with chilly female vocal. My Washing Machine has an dub feel-and by this time, if you don't like electro house, you're going to hate this second disc. Depeche Mode, well...the only really good mix of Precious is the original album version, so Sasha's mix bores me. Feel the Vibe is funky house-an odd and sudden switch, but the female vocals are hot. Dare is another quirky track from Gorillaz-not very interesting. Ferry Corsten-a fairly boring lite trance vocal track. Judy Torres does a pleasant cover of the Journey ballad, a simple commercial house mix. It's a perfect lead in to the final track, the Darude-esque trance track Raindrops, a female vocal track that is a good way to end this disc on a high note.

A lot of big songs, but neither disc is consistent in dance style as they try to appease all types of listeners. There are some hard-to-find mixes though, which is good for serious collectors, although not all of them are long versions. Track times:

"Wow! I've bought every ultra series album. Everything from Ultra Trance to Ultra Chilled. Like many others i've been anxiously awating the release of the next album of the series Ultra Dance 7. Counting the days down finally January 24th arrived and i was off to Best Buy to get it. Ah yes i finally have my hands on it!.. im walking around best buy.. proud to hold this cd in my hand. i finally begin to look at the tracks. wait a minute! The Killers... Mr. Brightside???.. meh.. ok MAYBE it might be an awesome remix. no problem. My eyes scroll down the track list.. Destinys CHild Faith Evans? Britney Spears? what the hell?? Okk... they better be some good remix's. i finally get to the car pop the cd in and i was shocked.. when i got ultra dance 6 the first track jumped out at me and was really damn good!.. this one.. Slow and mellow. thats wat i can say about every track on this cd. Slow and Mellow and nothing that like grabs my attention. i finally get to listen to everything at home and before you know it the first disc is done and nothing grabbed your attention. wow.. this was teh same for the second disc as well. Suprisingly i think the best disc was teh third bonus disc. It was all real dance music no crappy remix of another song. And thats why i buy these ultra dance cd's. because i want the newest, latest dance music out there! Not a crappy fabrication of a hiphop, r&b, Pop, Rock songs. sad to say but i am REALLY disappointed with this cd. but i will still have it in my collection. I think its pretty safe to say that Ultra Dance 6 will be getting more airtime in my car than Ultra dance 7."
Lots Of Progressive House On This Collection.

"I was browsing around Best Buy and I bought this double disc collection where it was on sale ($13.99) and included a third bonus disc (exclusive to Best Buy). I thought the collection was pretty good, not great and it had a more prgressive style house for the most part. Each song is fairly long too before the dj's mix into the next song. My favorites are Every Single Day by the Benassi Brothers feat. Dhany, House Is Not A Home by Deborah Cox, Everytime We Touch by Cascada, Turn On The Music by Roger Sanchez feat. GTO, You're No Good by Tocadisco, Your Body by Tom Novy, Fel The Vibe by Axwell and Faithfully by Judy Torres. Bad cuts that should have been left off are What Happens Tomorrow by Duran Duran (I liked the album version but honestly Peter Rauhofer's remix stinks big time), Toxic by Britney Spears, Love Generation by Bob Sinclar (a really bad song and terrible male vocals), Say, Say, Say by Hi_Tack (samples Michael Jackson's hit), My Washing Machine by SIKK (horrible song and really annoying), and Dare by Gorillaz (this song stinks). I gave this collection three stars but honestly it's not one of Ultra's better collections. My advice listen to the 2-cd's before buying."
