CD Reviews

A good trance mix by a talented young U.S. dj
Douglas A. Greenberg | Berkeley, CA USA | 11/28/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Florida dj Jason Dunne has put together an excellent mix of trance and progressive house tracks on this cd, including a good balance between well-known anthems and lesser known tracks. Even in including some fairly well-worn songs like ATB's "Til I Come," Dunne helps the listener avert boredom by utilizing a relatively little-heard mix by Sequential One. The progression of the mix is fairly typical of this dancefloor-oriented genre, beginning with mellower tracks like Sasha's "Xpander" and building toward a frenzied end through inclusion of such fast-paced anthems as "Out of the Blue" by System F (aka Ferry Corsten) and "Veracocha" by Carte Blanche. Overall, Dunne has done a fine job here of putting together a mix that's great for listening and even better for dancing, and fans of electronic trance and progressive house music would do well to give this cd a try."
Allegations that it's "commercial" lack Substance.

"If all the big names in the genre are here...how is that a bad thing? It's all the great stuff of the year in one place. I can't see any problems with the mixing, and I don't see a shred of "chessyness." When people resort to calling something "commercial" as a derogatory term it illustrates a failure to grasp an integral concept of modern reality: ALL MUSIC IS COMMERICAL! That's why the call it the music INDUSTRY. That's no excuse, of course, for a lack of artistic integrity, but that just isn't here. This is an awesome cd and any trance fan that hasn't already should pick it up."
