Product Description The release of Ace s first Theme Time Radio Hour compilation in February 2008 was a huge success both critically and commercially and they are very pleased to announce another double CD featuring the highlights of the second radio series of 'Theme Time Radio Hour, with your host Bob Dylan'. 50 tracks spanning the history of recorded music showcased in the radio show have been selected: all styles, all genres, all decades are here. Dylan s legendary eclectic taste and vast musical knowledge touches all bases. Similarly packaged to Volume 1, this CD features a deluxe colour booklet (packaged inside a slip case) with track-by-track notes by luminaries including Al Kooper, Jerry Dammers, Fred Dellar, Charlie Gillett, Mark Lamarr and many, many more. Long-time friend of Ace Billy Bragg contributes the introduction. The double CD has a mini-booklet inside with just the track listing and credits for the quick guide for listeners to see the contents. Compiled in association with the producer of the radio show, Eddie Gorodetsky, and Dylan s manager, Jeff Rosen, this is an officially approved release and should not be confused with other compilations that are attempting to cash-in on the series. The way the cd was promoted led me to believe that even though it was never directly stated. That is not the format, it is just the music from the show with no Dylan comments, etc. There is a booklet with other comments included but not from the radio show...hence bait and switch and i took the bait!" Yet Theme Time Radio Hour continues to spawn these wonderful collections of near-forgotten tracks, great songs from the entire era of recorded music. "Theme Time Radio Hour: Season Two" continues the Ace series of assembling songs that now have the Bob Dylan Stamp of Approval. There's no appearance of Dylan himself here. This is all music, all music by other artists. All music that was played on Theme Time Radio Hour. If the listener is expecting The Man himself, the listener is not reading the fine print. What is here is a thoroughly enjoyable two hour collection of music. The experience is enhanced with a detailed booklet, describing each track and the artists who made it. It also includes a fine history of the adolescent Bob, listening late at night to distant radio stations, hearing music that his local station did not play, might never play. All around, a great collection of memories, and for some, for many, not yet memories at all, but will be. Four stars, because I think there might have been different Theme Time tracks that would have made it better, for me. As I wrote in an earlier review of another TTRH collection, it would be very hard for any two to agree on a "perfect" collection, but it will be easy to agree that this one is exceptionally good to have, to play, to enjoy over and again." Well I think that means Bob Dylan will be on the recordings. The teaser is just plain dishonest and would be easy to correct. I bought the first box set. Music and price were OK - no "with your host" Bob Dylan was not OK. The single CD including Dylan was killer - wish i could get more." |
