Clean as a whistle, and nothing out of place; that's one way to describe the sharp lines and mod attitude of Pork's 1995 artist compilation, a sleek vehicle for acid-jazz vamps and airy trip-hop tracts. Nothing "illbient" here; just bouncy urban grooves and sultry horns, punctuated with oscillating synth warbles and the odd 303 drum machine blurp. Music for "jazzmopolitans," A Taste of Pork features the sexy, airbrushed "bossa-hop" of Fila Brazillia, the wee-hours sonic seduction of Heights of Abraham, the space-lounge sax lyricism of R Earth, and the comfy couch funk of the Solid Doctor. Tracks like these encourage Muzak comparisons among harsher critics, but they inhabit an interesting zone--the crossroads of trip-hop, ambient, Latin jazz, and easy listening. Make-out music for moderns? The hipster's huggable hip-hop? Great "taste," less filling? --James Rotondi

"I was never a big fan of electronic music, until I heard this record being played in a store. I immediately purchased it, and it has become without a doubt one the the best records I have ever owned. It is very good to work to, or simply just to relax. I highly recommend records by all of the artists on this compilation. Fila Brazillia are true masters of this genre of music. Buy it. You won't be disappointed"

"Try the perfect mélange of down tempo jazz, bassa, trip hop and soul. This disc fits nicely as background to an intimate evening or as the accompaniment to a mellow smoking session. Happily, the songs are not of the ambient-eclectic variety (meaning that it is not mere discordant synthesized noise that passing as groundbreaking art). Soft and slow, yet the cool beats keep you're insides moving. If it were an attitude, I'd want to feel it all the time."
