CD Reviews

Worthy Successor to "Legend ..."
S. W. Brown | LaGrange, GA, USA | 05/29/2008

"If you liked "Legend Of A Mind", go ahead & pull the trigger. This is a sequel that equals, if not exceeds, the quality of the first installment. The deeper you mine, the purer the gold. No risk here for the well indoctrinated listener. If you've never heard any of this, you're in for a prog-a-delic treat."

"A great listen, with only one or two tracks I have an urge to skip. Good re-mastering, great booklet, simply awesome music...

Yeah, so Britain from like '69 through like '74 or so was a great time for music. That psychedelic 60's sound was melding into hard rock (think Black Sabbath) Blues (think Eric Clapton, but INTERESTING) and Prog (think Yes, but No, it's cool) but all at the same time. Most people hear the word PROG, and they run screaming for the hills. They think Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer, and their stomachs get queasy from the pretension and 40 minute moog solos. But the music in this set doesn't really sound like that. It's a bit more creative, and is also extremely varied. None of the bands on this set SOUNDS LIKE ANY OF THE OTHER BANDS. The Deram label, at the time, wasn't thinking about COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL, they just wanted cool, creative music that tested boundaries, and that's what this boxset contains. Some of it is mellow, some of it is hard rocking, some of it has that great, gutsy bluesy sound, but all of it is great.

The other day, I was working at home, and listened to all 3 1/2 hours of this set in one sitting, and it was a great experience. It all sounds so different, and so ecclectic, with such great musicianship you just have to dig it. And dig it you will. Grab this sucker while you can -- the previous set featuring the Deram Lable, "Legend of a Mind" is now difficult to find and has become a collector's item."
A true gem

"A True Gem.

One of the best compilations ever released from the progressive mid sixties to early seventies British Rock era (Decca)

Rock music during this time was full of innovation.

New styles and approaches to writing and producing music was peaking.

This compilation is a must for music collectors.

Rare gems not easily found. Very well remastered.

This compilation is important not only for its historical value but it is also an excellent and accurate indication of what was going on musically in the British rock world at that time."
