Miles Davis' legendary Kind of Blue album is perhaps the most acclaimed jazz album in history, as well as the largest seller. Featuring Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane, Miles created one of the greatest bands ever assembled on the planet. But this assembly was not to last, as these stellar sidemen had already arrived at the point where it was time to move on and take their place as the next generation of jazz giants in the oncoming `60s. Sides of Blue, a new concept compilation album, takes these emerging masters and future legends when they were still sidemates in Miles' Kind of Blue band, and presents a compilation of Kind of Blue inflected music from their separate albums as leaders around that same period as though these sidemen had recorded their own album as a group.Sides of Blue is an album which requires a leap of imagination to derive its fullest pleasures. It creates a listening experience which highlights the particularly distinctive contributions of these young giants in their own right, but in the exploratory context of the Kind of Blue band sound. Imagine if you will, the following scenario: it's the last set each night at a club where the Miles Davis Sextet is booked for a week.
