Gamble and Huff's Best
Jarvis Johnson | Long Beach, CA United States | 08/18/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"No seventies soul collection could be complete without the work produced and, for the most part, written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. This record captures all of their chart-topping work from the seventies, including "Love Train" (The O'Jays), "Me and Mrs. Jones" (Billy Paul), and "TSOP" (MFSB, featuring the Three Degrees). This is a great record to own if you don't want to purchase each album by every artist on this record. Also present on this record is the original version of "Don't Leave Me This Way," by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, which later became a disco mega-smash for Thelma Houston. My one personal complaint with the record is the inclusion of the original 6+ minute versions of some of these songs, such as "For The Love of Money," "Don't Leave Me This Way," and "I Love Music." This is only my personal preference-sometimes songs leave lasting impressions when limited by radio constraints. To each their own, however. This is still a great album, and a wonderful collage of the seventies, where funk and classical met at that bridge called disco."

"My husband and I have a large cd collection and this is for sure one of our top ten favorites. A great list of timeless songs performed by talented muscians and written by Gamble/Huff who in retrospect seemed to be underated at the time these songs were hits. When you hear all of these songs together with the great arrangements and soul it is simply heaven! You can not help but be moved by the music and will feel the soul right down to your toes."
