CD Reviews

Most Are Here On One CD
C. W. Emblom | Ishpeming, Michigan USA | 11/14/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The back of this CD reads "You can spend your time running around town, buying up each ba bb ba, every dang a dang dang, and all the ding dong dings you can get your hands on. Or you can go about it the right way. Pick up this one disc and hear the ultimate 22 doo wop cuts of all time. You decide." It may not contain every song you may like, but you can't argue with the ones that are included on this disc. Here it is. Buy it!"

"These recordings sounded better than they did forty years ago. None of the hiss, pops, and static we used to contend with. The recording quality surprised me as I expected this old music to sound weak and monotone. It is very enjoyable on the stereo in my modern vehicle."
Rhino is slipping

"While most of the tracks on this CD sound great, and a few are even in true stereo, one of my favorites sounds terrible. "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler, presented here in stereo as originally recorded, is, in a word, defective. The sound in the different channels keeps weaving in and out. Surely this could have been cleaned up, it sounds like the speaker wires are loose on the stereo but they're not. This especially sucks because it's one of the main reasons I purchased this disc, fully expecting Rhino to get it right. It's available on numerous other collections and I should have bought one of those instead."
