CD Reviews

The best EP I've ever heard, but...
Patrick G. Varine | Georgetown, Delaware | 07/17/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"...That having been said, it's also the most solid chunk of East-Coast hip-hop released in 1995. Unfortunately, when someone was packaging the soundtrack, they figured it would be a good idea to put 20-some songs on "Vol. 1" and EIGHT SONGS on "Vol. 2." The result is an overpriced EP, but it's well worth it.While "New Jersey Drive" may have been a fairly average film, the soundtrack was of the highest quality. And the majority of the quality material was saved for this installment. The low-key loop of the E. Bros. "Funky Piano" highlights the MC's smoky, gritty flow. The Beatminerz provide a menacing backdrop for Black Moon's "Headz Ain't Ready," and Mad Lion growls up a storm on the KRS-One-produced "Own Destiny."Funkmaster Flex works a wicked horn loop into the energetic "Flipsquad's In Da House. O.C. & Organized Konfusion go on a car-jacking spree in "You Won't Go Far," and DJ Premier blesses Jeru the Damaja with a tight track for the obligatory police-brutality ode, "Invasion."Oh, and just in case you need one MORE reason to buy "New Jersey Drive, Vol. 2," Biz Markie flips Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle." Yeah, that's right."
