As background music goes, this third volume in the Musical Massage series (from the Relaxation Company, a Roslyn, NY-based outfit) is pleasant audio diversion that offers some attractive moments, as well as a few tedious ones. The 58-minute program, which is divided into four parts (and performed by four obscure musicians), unfolds this way: a gentle, keyboard-based floater (Vangelis-like in its best places); an attractive, softly repeating melody that's performed on electric piano (later a traditional piano) and, like a good music box, gradually achieves a mesmerizing hold on its listeners; a tour through an enchanted virtual forest that's filled with bird samples and water sounds (which are faintly guided by a shakuhachi flute); and a spare assortment of overly delicate interpretations of works by Satie, Bach, etc., for flute and acoustic guitar. Only the concluding segment, which is performed with what seems like exaggerated fragility, is a mild disappointment. The first three tracks serve their intended purpose--to render listeners contentedly comatose--with a modest degree of flair. --Terry Wood

Relax- it's Musical Massage Volume III

"Musical Massage III is a wonderful blend of musical scores from several individual and differing artists. The thing I found refreshing about this collection was that each track was wholly unique from it's predecessor; it wasn't a CD filled with the same thing all the way through, which much of my relaxation music is. It is difficult to find a CD that is not only relaxing, but entertaining. The CD starts with a warm synthesized score (The Crystal Star), and moves through restful tracks of fluid piano, nature sounds, and flute (Rosewood and Silver). I found it fantastic for working on my paintings and sculpture, and for visualizing new works. True meditation is hard with this CD because of the changes, but if you are looking for music to calm anxious nerves or help concentration, this is definitely a must have."

"I am a massage therapist, and therefore always on the lookout for relaxing music. This is my first time trying the Musical Massage series, and I'm disappointed. The best massage music is both relaxing and beautiful to listen to. This CD, on the other hand is bland and forgettable. It doesn't seem to enter the consciousness at all. If you're looking for a masterpiece in soothing music, try Spirit Visions by Anakwad. You won't be disappointed."
