Rough going here!

"As an avowed Jimmie Rodgers fan, this was really something I felt I couldn't pass up. Again, Bear Family does an excellent job of resurrecting the weird and the wonderful! But, casual fans may find some of this rough going. Many of the artists presented here simply try to imitate Rodgers and so you wind up with the thought that Jimmie is singing about his own death on some of these. The Gene Autry cuts are as excellent as excellent can get. While he does try at times to imitate Rodgers, he can pull it off quite well. The live tribute show is a bit puzzling, though. One could understand the inclusion of Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow and even Jim Reeves, but where do the Wilburn Brothers fit in at? The trio of E.T. & the Wilburns seems to be as non-sensical as you can get & seemingly has nothing to do with Rodgers. One absolute delight, though, is Jim Reeves' all too short rendition of "Waitin' For A Train" that is complete with a yodel break which is not found on the studio version of the song. If you're serious about Rodgers, this is a must buy. It's probably not one you'll find yourself putting in the CD changer for a regular slot, but still is a must have."
