"the title of this series is well-deserved. as byron wrote: "there be none of beauty's daughters with a magic like thee; and like music on the waters is thy sweet voice to me; heavenly voices." the series is comprised of female voices from etherial and gothic genres, and of the five c.d.'s to choose from, this is the perfect start. fans of underground or etherial music will be well familiar with 'black tape for a blue girl', who contribute the beautiful "overwhelmed beneath me" here. other highlights include the french band 'collection d'arnell andrea', the largely successful 'in the nursery', and 'bel am'. but there are many hidden beauties here, also. bands who's c.d.'s i have searched out on the strength of a song included on this volume. 'eleven shadows' with their harrowing account "56 in 81", '24 hours' with the achingly beautiful "the sea is my soul", and 'love is colder than death', who turns out the perfect gothic ballad, "oxela". every song here is a winner, and from 18 songs to choose from, that in itself is an accomplishment. i can't recommend this c.d. highly enough. volumes one and five are also highly recommended, with just one song each not really fitting the mood as well. and coming at a time when "plastic" music is dominating radio and television, it's refreshing to hear true soul; true beauty expressed through the incredible instrument of the female voice. buy the c.d., light some candles, lay back, and prepare to be taken on a journey to the land of the goddesses; you'll find it here."

"Amazing to see this after 11 years. I took the picture for the cover. The lady's face belongs to my ex-wife, who used to be in This Mortal Coil. The picture was taken with a Nikon FM2 without the lens but with a piece of silver foil attached, where the lens should be ,with a little hole in the middle. ( For experts: a kind of pinhole camera). It was done in Petherton Road in Highbury London somewhere in the summer of 1994.
