Synopsis

Product Description
After You Heard It Here First, featuring original versions of songs that went on to become classic hits for others, we now introduce its sister series. You Heard Them Here First features early - and, in most cases, the 1960s debut - recordings of 24 legends of rock, most of them on CD for the first time. Here you can hear iconic singer songwriters like Dan Penn and Neil Young, cult heroes such as PF Sloan, Lou Reed and Lee Hazlewood and future global superstars Cher, David Bowie and Rod Stewart at the dawn of long and extensive careers - sounding, in many cases, no different to how they sounded once they achieved worldwide fame.Superstars often shun their early work as inferior, but we have included only recordings that display those involved in a favourable light, so we are sure that this CD will cause no embarrassment to anyone featured.Oh, yes - in case you were wondering, there'll be a second volume of You Heard It Here First in early 2010.

"A fine example of how personalized musical tastes can be. It seems that to enjoy this disc one must first appreciate obscure releases that weren't worthy of mass marketing and probably be over 50 years old. Don't know how long I'll listen to it but it fulfilled the craving for more rock history. Some of these were already known by me but many were never heard before. But, one can't enjoy this if hits are the songs you desire to hear. It was recently opined that the rerelease of Exile on Main Street could have sold many more if there were hits on it. But with only 2 charting singles the average music fan, not a Stones fan, would steer clear of it. If they'd never heard it before that rejection is a mistake. Here as well, not purchasing this, if you're more than a listener looking for familiarity, is a mistake. The music is by and large above average and the history is massive."
