"In my opinion, many 70's R&B compilations (Pure Funk 1 & 2, etc.) tend to focus heavily on funk and danceability, often at the expense of many slower but beautiful soul songs. I'm not one to dispute the greatness of funk or James Brown (whose 2 tracks on this album are both great) but it is nice to see a compilation of slower and equally great soul songs. Anyhow, I strongly reccomend the album, maybe even more than the first volume of the Dead Presidents soundtrack. My only qualm is that it includes a version of "we people who are darker than blue" from the early 90's rather than the original version from the album "Curtis")"
