CD Reviews

Terrific recreation of 50s radio
hyperbolium | Earth, USA | 06/07/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The "Crusin'" series does a wonderful job of recreating the radio of the era, from the cherry-picked musical selections, to vintage commercials, radio spots, and, most powerfully, the original personalities. Great music radio like this lived on through the Top-40 era of the late 60s/early 70s, but it hasn't been heard since.DJ Jack Carney is superb, and the weaving of music, ads and continuity creates a wonderful listening experience. Too bad radio can't find talents like this (both the DJ and those producing all the spots) and stations no longer have the amazing personalities of a WIL, St. Louis."
Disappointment 1958
Gordon M. Gerson | Reston, VA | 06/15/2008
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I received this CD as a gift because my college graduation year was 1958. I enjoyed the very few recordings that were on the CD but not the incessant radio blather. It totally detracts from the music.

I believe that the information accompanying the product should indicate that there is more talking than music. It should also highlight that if you are not from St. Louis and therefore not familar with their radio stations you will find the talk patter really boring."
Classic Rock & Roll Radio
Bill Dewey/Reclaiming Quarterly | San Francisco | 10/16/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Cruisin' series hired old-time DJs to recreate vintage rock-n-roll radio shows. Yes, you get commercials, local news, and other chatter between the songs - but that's what's fun about this series compared to all the other re-issues. This one takes you right to the heart of the era. Get a few of these from the 1950s and you have an evening of classic rock-n-roll radio."
