Regular listeners of Mountain Stage know that they can depend on the show to deliver both variety and class on a weekly basis. Their best-of CD series offers the same high quality and selection. Christmas at Mountain Stage boasts a little bit of everything, from Kathy Mattea's gorgeous "Christ Child Lullaby" to the Roches' wacky take on "Winter Wonderland." Host Larry Groce is represented with his own ballad, "Christmas Angel" (featuring vocal accompaniment from house band members Julie Adams and Deni Bonet). Highlights of the set include Mike Seeger's jaunty "Singin' in the Land," Michael Martin Murphy's accordion-driven "Cowboy Christmas Ball" (complete with cameo by cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell), and Tim and Mollie O'Brien's delightful romp through "Papa's on the Housetop." --Michael Ruby
