Synopsis

Album Description

This remarkable collection was recorded by Guy and Candie Carawan during a visit to China in 1976. The music is sung by soloists and small groups and played on traditional instruments. In China, "folk song" generally means an old tune and style with new words -- song titles include "Commune Members are Sunflowers," "I Want to be a True Revolutionary," "People Love Chairman Mao," and "A New Look has Come to Our Mountain Village." Many of the songs are sung by groups of children.
