"I don't know if the Smithsonian is always this good with their collections, but if you're looking for history, they've done it right here. I grew up listening to Big Band pieces from the late 30s & early 40s - songs my Dad jitterbugged to as a teen. But there's a lot more. From the thin sounding beginnings in the 20s to the overlush sounds of the 50s - this collection covers it all. Of course, I find that I listen to the middle cuts the most - all the familiar favorites. But put the whole set on for an afternoon, and you'll travel through musical history. The more than 50-page guide (in big old LP format - my first copy) is comprehensive & full of great tidbits. A must for any swing enthusiast."
